STOP CHILD SOLDIERS: We are Boston-area high school students raising awareness and funds to end the use of child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Child Soldiers

Child SoldierFor more than ten years the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been at war. A tragic by-product of this war has been the systematic recruitment of both male and female children to be helpless pawns in the destructive behavior of adults.

The child soldiers are often raped, turned into sex slaves, deprived of their education and childhood, and are often maimed or killed in the line of fire. Many children who have escaped from the military or have been returned to society often face additional socialization issues.

We are a group of Boston area High School students who find the practice of using children as tools in war abhorrent and a violation of basic Human Rights. We want to see the practice of using child soldiers in the Congo stopped. We would like adults responsible for recruiting or abducting children as soldiers to be tried as war criminals, and that current and former Congolese child soldiers be given appropriate treatment, training and necessary services so they may readjust to living a normal life.

Please join us in stopping the use of child soldiers in the Congo. This web site tells you how you may advocate on behalf of these children through our letter writing campaign. If you are financially able, the web site will also tell you how you may make a tax-deductible donation to help put money directly in the hands of child advocates on the ground in the Congo so we can help these unfortunate children.
